Free 1 Hour Virtual Workshop! Tues, Oct 7 at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern Time
Dive into curriculum-linked learning with a focus on Salmon. This workshop will bring together a wonderful array of activities, tools and resources for elementary aged learners to discover the incredible world of Salmon! Bringing together western and Indigenous learning resources, learn to help students look below the surface, and explore the habitat, behaviour, lifecycle, and patterns of this species that make it so unique and important.
In collaboration with our partners at NatureKidsBC we have recently released a Super Salmon Learning Kit! This kit is made with grades 2-5 in mind, but can be adapted to slightly younger and slightly older grade levels. It includes books, resources, models, activities, memory cards, and more!
Presenter Molly Cooperman co-created the Salmon Toolkit for NatureKidsBC. She has had a passion for salmon from a young age as she grew up in the Shuswap where she frequently visited the Adams River. Her feelings for the importance of salmon conservation led her to become a board member for both The Adams River Salmon Society and Kingfisher Interpretive Centre Society in the past. She designed, organized, and implemented a Youth for Salmon contest during the Salute to Sockeye Festival in 2018. She has worked many seasons as a facilitator for field trips where classes release their salmon fry as part of the Stream to Sea program. As a WildBC facilitator for HCTF education and a long-time volunteer leader for NatureKids BC she loves to inspire educators and families to connect children with nature.
