ABOUT THE PROJECT

Awareness, Action, and a Greener Tomorrow

The Empowering a Greener Future: Youth and Educator Engagement in Clean Fuel Awareness project by United Spirit Nature Network (USNN), in collaboration with New Brunswick Indigenous Career College (NBICC), is a focused initiative to promote understanding and confidence in clean fuel technologies among youth and young professionals across New Brunswick. The project engages youth aged 13–25, particularly Indigenous and rural communities, along with educators and community leaders interested in environmental sustainability.

Aligned with Natural Resources Canada’s Education and Awareness Project Funding – EV Charging and Clean Fuels, it addresses knowledge and confidence gaps in clean fuels and technologies. Through culturally inclusive, youth-driven learning delivered via in-person and digital platforms, the project equips educators, community leaders, and young professionals with the tools to inspire and empower the next generation in Canada’s clean energy transition.

The Need for Green Energy Awareness

Many conversations about clean energy focus on technology and infrastructure, often overlooking the importance of education and community awareness. This project matters because it:

Builds understanding of clean fuel technologies

Equips educators with tools for engagement
Teachers receive ready-to-use resources and hands-on learning materials that help integrate clean energy topics into classrooms and community programs.

Empowering a Greener Future - Green Energy Project at USNN

Anticipated Impact

The Empowering a Greener Future project will create lasting change by equipping youth, educators, and communities with the knowledge and confidence to take part in Canada’s clean energy transition. Through hands-on learning and collaboration, the initiative will help foster awareness, capacity, and community engagement across New Brunswick.

Project Objectives

The Empowering a Greener Future initiative is designed to build public confidence and understanding of clean fuel technologies through education and engagement. Working with educators, youth, and communities across New Brunswick, this project aims to:

1. Develop and deliver engaging educational content
Create interactive, culturally informed materials that explain how clean fuels and technologies work, their environmental benefits, and their role in Canada’s energy transition.
2. Empower educators as clean energy leaders
Provide teachers with the training, curriculum tools, and strategies they need to bring clean fuel and sustainability topics into classrooms and extracurricular programs.
3. Foster youth engagement and awareness
Encourage young people to explore the science, innovation, and career opportunities linked to clean fuels through hands-on learning and community events.
4. Build digital learning and collaboration spaces
Launch an accessible online platform that connects educators, students, and community leaders with interactive tools, downloadable resources, and ongoing learning opportunities.

The project is open to youth aged 13–25, educators, and community leaders across New Brunswick. While our focus is on engaging Indigenous, rural, and local communities, all are welcome to take part in workshops, events, and online learning opportunities.

Clean fuels are low-carbon energy sources—such as hydrogen, biofuels, and renewable electricity—that can power vehicles, homes, and industries with fewer greenhouse gas emissions. They are a key part of Canada’s transition toward a sustainable, net-zero future.

Educators will have access to a three-week curriculum module, a downloadable toolkit, and training sessions designed to integrate clean energy concepts into science and extracurricular programs. The resources are flexible, culturally informed, and easy to adapt for different learning settings.

Yes. The initiative includes workshops, interactive activities, and public career panels that connect students with clean energy professionals and green industry opportunities.

The project is developed in collaboration with Indigenous partners and emphasizes Two-Eyed Seeing—bringing together Indigenous knowledge and Western science to strengthen learning and sustainability outcomes.

All educational resources, workshop materials, and event details will be available through a dedicated online platform hosted by the United Spirit Nature Network (USNN).
